Dr Michele Sadler has authored a review “Dried Fruit and Dental Health” which was published online in the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition on 14th July 2016. Classed as ‘Gap Bridging Research’ the paper reviews existing studies that have investigated the effect of dried fruit on dental health, and considers new research that is needed to increase scientific knowledge in this area. The review highlights the paucity of currently available data and the poor quality of the existing research, and concludes that it is premature to give evidence-based advice on the unsuitability of dried fruits as a snack on the basis of dental health outcomes.
